DeHaviland Tiger Moth R5077 - 10/09/1941

Pilot Officer A V Saunders was flying a DeHaviland Tiger Moth No R5077 of the Merchant Ship Fighter Unit, he was carrying out local flying practice on the 10th September 1941 when he was caught in violent air current, unable to recover from the subsequent spin he crashed at Biston, Wirral. Pilot Officer Saunders was uninjured in the accident but the aircraft was badly damaged and struck of charge on the 18th September 1941.

The subsequent investigation concluded that Pilot Officer Saunders was carrying out unauthorised low flying at time and therefore forfeited his seniority.
