Hawker Hurricane P5183 - 28/10/1941

On the 28th October 1941 Flying Officer Archibald Colin Maclaren (90950) of the Merchant Ship Fighter Unit was carrying local flying Hawker Hurricane No P5183 when Flying Officer Mclaren had to carry out a forced landing on a sand bank in the River Mersey at 17:10 hours, the aircraft was recovered and became an instructional airframe No 2807M.

Flying Officer Mclaren subsequently had his log book endorsed.

Flying Officer Mclaren was born in 1913 and educated at Eaton, he joined No 604 Squadron AuxAF in 1939 and was called up in August 1939. He left the RAF in 1946 with the rank of Flight Lieutenant and died in 1971.
