On the 14th December 1941 Douglas Boston Z2299 of No 3 Ferry Pilot Pool, the aircraft was on a ferry flight from Speke to Wattisham and was being flown by 1st Officer J. E. Wolfe of the ATA. When attempting a forced landing due to bad weather and a shortage of fuel the front nose wheel broke of after sinking in soft ground.
