Brewster Bermuda FF562 - 21/03/1943

Mr John Patrick Wakelin Topham a civilian test pilot of the Lockheed Oversea Corporation was on a flight test in Brewster Bermuda No FF562 and when coming into land using runway No 6-3, the port undercarriage failed to lock down causing the aircraft to crash down onto the runway, Mr Topham was unhurt.

The aircraft was delivered from the USA to Avonmouth and taken on charge on the 18/02/1943 and then arrived at Speke on the 28/02/1943, after its accident on the 21/03/1943 the aircraft was issued to No 27 MU on the 15/04/1943 and struck of charge on the 01/04/1944.

This event was witness by a Brian Walker who commented that Topham made a landing with one wheel down and was very well executed with little damage to the aircraft.

Mr Topham was killed in another accident flying mustang No FX919.
